As COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates across the state continue to increase, particularly in downstate communities with the lowest vaccination rates, Governor JB Pritzker and IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike today announced vaccination requirements for individuals in high risk settings. The Governor and Dr. Ezike also announced a statewide indoor mask mandate for all Illinois residents, regardless of vaccination status, as COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates continue to increase. The masking requirements are effective Monday, August 30th.

As COVID-19 infection rates across the state continue to increase, Governor Pritzker announced masks will be required for students, teachers, and staff at pre-kindergarten-12th grade schools and day cares across the state. The governor announced his intent to require all state employees working in congregate facilities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by October 4th. Additionally, the state is requiring universal masking in private long-term care facilities.

He commended the Adams County Health Department for their exemplary work, from being the first local health department to vaccinate Illinois veterans to helping neighboring counties reach elderly residents. Springfield, Ill. - Governor Pritzker announces that Region 9 – Lake and McHenry counties – has sustained an average positivity rate of 8% or higher for three days. Therefore, starting Saturday, they will join 7 of the 11 other Regions in operating under resurgence mitigations. The Governor warns that in Region 9, average COVID-related hospital admissions are five times as high as they were in mid-June.

Springfield, Ill. - Governor Pritzker announces that Tier 2 mitigations will be implemented for Region 1, Northwestern Illinois, on October 25, 2020. The region has continued to see a surging positivity rate, now up to 11.9 percent. The additional mitigations include tighter gathering cap of 10 individuals instead of 25, and new table caps of six instead of 10 when eating out.

Every region of Illinois has a positivity rate above 7 percent, and there are concerning trends in hospital admissions. Springfield, Ill. - Governor Pritzker announces that COVID-19 resurgence mitigations will be implemented in Region 5, in Southern Illinois, on October 22. The governor explains that every region of the state has started to move in the wrong direction, with cases, positivity rates, hospitalizations and deaths rising statewide. In response to the recent increase in cases in all 11 regions, Governor Pritzker and the administration will resume daily weekday press conferences.

Springfield, Ill. – Governor Pritzker announced that the FDA gave the green light under their Emergency Use Authorization powers for the University of Illinois’ new​​ saliva-based COVID-19 test ​at the Urbana-Champaign lab. The Governor also highlighted that Region 4, the Metro East region, is operating under stricter mitigation requirements after surpassing an 8 percent average positivity rate for three consecutive days.
